Well it has been a challenging period.  The smoke around Canberra reminded us of the\ndisaster that has been around us in NSW (and now on our doorstep).  My family has been personally impacted with\nmembers living at the coast being threatened with destruction of their houses\nor worse.  We\u2019ve hosted 7 evacuees in our\nhouse \u2013 having them here has been quite entertaining but with the concern about\nthose staying back uppermost in our minds. \nThe Fires Near Me app was in constant use \u2013 currently showing that our\nold haunt at Brogo perhaps having a near escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In amongst this, Charlie ran into an old friend of the\nclub \u2013 Randy.  He had moved down from\nCanberra to Malua Bay some years ago (2013?). \nTragically, Randy lost his house and many of his possessions in the New\nYear\u2019s Eve firestorm.  I have conveyed to\nRandy the sympathy of CAA. Our thoughts go out to him and Lindsay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many members will remember Randy for his knife sharpening stall operating at Moruya Markets.  Randy was the contact who got CAA access to the CSIRO Ski Club lodge at East Jindabyne for which we continue to be grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hadn\u2019t thought we\u2019d publish a February edition, but the ever reliable Jason M has filled my in-box with material about the previous trip to Brogo and \u2018postcards\u2019 from his fishing\/kayaking\/camping expedition in Tasmania \u2013 I\u2019ve saved a couple for our next edition.  Thanks also to Claude for some images of his latest flytying creations \u2013 his \u2018secret flies\u2019 for our forthcoming NZ trip remain under wraps.  I\u2019ve also popped in some information about the sculpture that long time member Charlie assisted with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One final snippet that I just learnt of yesterday.\u00a0 President of MAS and local angling guru Steve Samuels has been reappointed to the Recreational Fishing NSW Advisory Council<\/a> \u2013 giving a voice to recreational anglers directly to the Minister.\u00a0 Congratulations Steve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
