Press Release: access to the Eucumbene River Brown Trout Spawning Run at Denison

On Wednesday 30 March 2016 the Monaro Acclimatisation Society Inc (MAS) hosted a meeting with anglers and representatives from Snowy Hydro, Kosciuszko National Park, NSW Fisheries, NSW Maritime and the Lake Eucumbene Chamber of Commerce to try and resolve the issue of continuing environmental degradation of the Eucumbene River banks at the Denison Campground near Providence Portal, NSW…
The meeting discussed all the issues and it was clear that all present wanted to see angler participation on the river continue, but the uncontrolled vehicle access could no longer be tolerated due to the damage being done…
The obvious thing to do Mr Samuels said was to develop a car park away from the river where anglers could park in safety. This would stop the damage being done, but would also allow anglers to access the river with relative ease…
Mr Samuels said that the meeting resolved to progress the issue. While it is not possible to do anything for this years run, he said, the intention was to have the matter resolved for the 2017 run.

Cooking Carp – a Multitude of Recipes
A little while ago Charlie sourced a cookbook developed by Lachlan Catchment Management Authority (now Local Land Services).
CRFA have recently been taking an interest in carp on their Facebook page. They have posted a link to a great page which includes a video tutorial on filleting and cooking carp. An excellent supplement to the cookbook.
So there’s fish other than trout in New Zealand?
As reported in March Burley Line Luke C recently travelled to New Zealand chasing fish in the salt water. Here is his trip report along with some details on indicative cost/contacts.

Lyall and Nathan recently went on a spey casting course. Their report should be of some interest to members (not just for two handed casters) even if it is not a ‘traditional’ location report.

Christmas Island presentation and Location Report
At our March 2016 meeting, Phil (assisted by his wife Kerryn) gave an entertaining and very comprehensive talk on their visit to Christmas Island chasing bonefish last year. The talk not only provided a view of the nature and results of the fishing, but Phil gave a lot of advice on costs etc. It is a valuable addition to our “Places to Fish” blog and is essential reading for anyone contemplating.
