Another stocking of yearling trout into Khancoban will contribute to our knowledge on how to overcome predation by redfin.

If you haven’t been checking out the competition, you wouldn’t be aware of some of the wild weather they’ve been having in Tasmania. Our jet-setting Secretary has reported in:
Snow, hail and 100 km winds – great if you only want to cast in one direction and like surfing down the face of waves on Little Pine Lagoon in a boat !!!
There is a group of volunteers on the highland lakes, another on the lower rivers and another, including me, based here in Launceston. Launceston is having the best weather so I count myself lucky.

We’re hoping Lyall can provide a short article for the next issue of Burley Line.

John tells us:
This month we will be tying a foam mayfly body, similar to the body Muz Wilson used on his Messy Dun fly.
The recipe includes:
In addition you will need to bring scissors or a knife to cut out the foam and your vice to hold the needle.

The issue is a little light on for local news. I had to publish early as I’ll be away in the last week of Nov (no, not fishing unfortunately) so our special Christmas edition could be a bumper issue with reports on the BugBlitz from Jaime (conducted last weekend), the Brogo trip led by Stefan this weekend, Jindabyne led by me and maybe some stuff from Claude on a recent trip to the upper Snowy. Fingers crossed.
Meantime, our President has offered up some notes and pictures from his trip across the ditch, and ever-reliable Lyall has submitted an intriguing take on his most recent backcountry trip in NZ. Peter sent in some notes encouraging us to pay more attention to our flylines (guilty as charged mate – that photo could be one of mine)
Lyall has reported here on the Ruakituri River near Gisborne. Food for thought – Peter and I have been thinking about trying the North Island and this is very enticing.
Stop Press, just in from Jaime:
1000 on Sat 16 Nov at the picnic/playground at the foot of Cotter Dam. More details was emailed to members.
Jaime has also reminded me of the photo competition being run:
Enter your photos of waterbugs and workshop locations for a chance to win an Olympus Tough TG6 camera valued at over $650. Take your photos within the promotion period from 1st September to 16 November 2019. See full details in the following link Waterbug Photo Competition
Our President, Rod, managed some days in NZ recently. Here he reports on a diverse angling trip with some great results
Spotted this on the MAS website. Rod Whiteway has penned an excellent piece summarizing the past season on the lower Monaro around the Kybeyan River. Rod is on the MAS executive and expresses his concerns in respect to the effects of the current drought and paucity of insect life.
Here.
Recently received from MAS. The EIS is a huge document but the Society Executive have been able to identify some key issues. The relevant section of the EIS is reproduced along with the MAS response. Quite easy reading.
